In our fallen world, there are many reasons why we might need to forgive. When sin entered the world, the opportunity to hurt one another and to be harmed by others entered as well.
It can be very difficult to forgive those who have hurt or harmed us. We might feel angry, resentful, or ill used for a very long time after someone hurts us. Sometimes it can feel impossible for us to forgive those who have harmed us.
God calls us to always forgive those who have wronged us. Scripture states explicitly that we are to forgive even our enemies. Jesus gave us the perfect example of how to forgive when He forgave His enemies from the cross.
Let’s offer prayers in this Novena for Forgiveness that we and all people who have been wronged by another may be given the grace to forgive.
Why Pray the Forgiveness Novena?
You can pray the Forgiveness Novena if someone you know has hurt or harmed you in some way. You can use this novena to seek the help you need to forgive even when it feels very difficult. You can also pray the Forgiveness Novena if a struggle to forgive someone is interfering with your family or friend relationships. Or you can use this novena to seek God’s grace to be able to forgive a hurt that feels impossible to forgive.

Forgiveness Novena - Day 1
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Dear Lord, we thank You and praise You for the many graces You have given us. We humbly ask that You help us and all people to forgive others as You call us to.
In our fallen world, there are many ways we can be hurt or harmed by others. You call us to forgive all who have wronged us, even when it is very difficult. Sometimes we might even need to forgive family members for a wrong they have done to us. You can help us to forgive even when it feels impossible.
Please help us and all people to grow in the ability to forgive, and we particularly ask today that You help all who are struggling to forgive a family member.
Help us to always rely on You for all that we need in our lives. Give us the grace to submit ourselves fully to You, even in the most difficult of circumstances.

You have greatly blessed us by giving us the ability to form friendships with others. The relationships we form with other people can help us in many ways in our lives. But we can also struggle in our friendships at times, and we often have the need to forgive even close friends when they fail us in some way.
Please help us and all people to grow in the ability to forgive, and we particularly ask today that You help all who are struggling to forgive a friend.
Help us to do all we can to grow in holiness in our lives. Give us the grace to seek deeper friendship with You at every opportunity.

There are many sources of suffering in our fallen world. Often, we must endure pain and suffering caused by someone we do not even know. It can be very difficult to understand Your plan and to forgive when we suffer as the result of a stranger’s actions.
Please help us and all people to grow in the ability to forgive, and we particularly ask today that You help all who are struggling to forgive someone they do not know who has caused suffering.
Help us to surrender to Your will even when we do not understand it. Give the grace to seek virtue and holiness even in the midst of suffering.

You call us to forgive even our enemies for how they have hurt us. Sometimes we must also forgive those who are close to us. When we fail to forgive, there are many other people who might suffer. You can help all families who are suffering because of a lack of forgiveness among their members.
Please help us and all people to grow in the ability to forgive, and we particularly ask today that You help all families that are in need of the healing brought by forgiveness.
Help us to offer up all sufferings in union with Yours. Give us the grace to love You more and more each day, even in the midst of great difficulties.

We often experience great suffering when others hurt us. Sometimes, these sufferings can be very difficult to endure. You call us to unite all sufferings to Yours for our own holiness and in reparation for sin.
Please help us and all people to grow in the ability to forgive, and we particularly ask today that You help all who are struggling to forgive to grow in the ability to offer all suffering to You.
Help us to make holy use of every trial we might face in our lives. Give us the grace to always do everything we can to become saints.
