About Our Lady Success
In 1594, the Blessed Virgin Mary began appearing to a cloistered Conceptionist nun named Mother Mariana de Jesus Torres, in Quito, Ecuador. Mary continued to appear to her for forty years.
In these apparitions, Mary told her that she wished to be known by the title of Our Lady of Good Success. The message of Our Lady of Good Success was about a future crisis in the Church and in society. She spoke particularly about the Church in the 20th century.
The crisis that Mary showed to Mother Mariana was very severe. She said that God would punish the world for the sins of blasphemy, impurity, and heresy. She also spoke about what she called the “total corruption of customs” because of Satan influencing society through Freemasonry.
Our Lady of Good Success also spoke about the faithful losing respect for the importance of the sacraments. She said that many souls would be lost because of the deprivation sanctifying and sacramental grace. She said that this would lead to suffering in society and to a loss of vocations.
Our Lady of Good Success told Mother Mariana that prayer and self-denial were necessary to combat these evils.
There were many prophecies contained in these visions of Our Lady of Good Success. On February 2nd, 1634 (the Feast of the Purification), Mother Mariana was praying before the Eucharist when the sanctuary light went out. Our Lady of Good Success told her that the extinguishing of this light symbolized the dire situation of the Church in coming times.
Our Lady of Good Success said there were five reasons behind this symbolic extinguishing of the sanctuary light.
First, heresy would prevail in Ecuador and the rest of the world in the end of the 19th century and in the 20th century. Second, the Conceptionist Community would shrink and become infected with the evils spreading in the rest of the Church. Third, chastity and purity would come under attack in the youth of the world. Fourth, Masonry and related sects would influence the world and even the Church. And fifth, those who have the means to help the Church would do nothing and allow evil to triumph.
The great evil that Mother Mariana saw caused her to faint and remain unconscious for two days. A doctor pronounced that her death was coming, but she miraculously revived and lived another year.
Our Lady of Good Success asked that a statue be made in her honor, for two reasons: so that people would see how powerful she is in obtaining mercy for sinners; and to show people that she is always ready to hear their cries and sooth their pain.
Many miracles and graces have come about both during Mother Mariana’s life and after her death, through the intercession of Our Lady of Good Success.
